DOCUMENTARY OF REFEREES AND REFEREEING TO BE SHOWN IN VANCOUVER DURING FILM FEST.

Interested in seeing how football referees and refereeing is perceived around the world?

               ‘The Referees’, a documentary from Belgium, will be shown during the Documentary Media Association’s (DOXA) film festival in Vancouver. Yves Hinant’s new documentary, ‘The Referees’, takes a look at what it takes to be a professional referee in countries where football is often perceived as a religion, and draws insight into the numerous grievances of the professional referee. The film will be showing at the Pacific Cinematique on May 13th at 6:00pm. For further information please proceed to the DOXA film festival site. A review of the documentary can be located here.

AGM/SPRING COUNCIL/JACK TINNION MEMORIAL SHIELD SET FOR SAT MAY 8th

This year’s Spring Council/Annual General Meeting will be held on Saturday, May 8th in Victoria. Call to order is 930am. A meeting venue is to be announced in due course. The annual Jack Tinnion Memorial Shield match featuring members in the 604 area code vs 250 area code members will be held after the meeting. A light lunch will be provided for all meeting attendees.

The meeting is open to all members of the Referees Association. All participants are asked to RSVP to Provincial Secretary Richard Brownie (guild_ref@hotmail.com) so that numbers for lunch can be arranged.

The purpose of the meeting is as follows:

  • To continue focus on the RA’s Business Plan 
  • To approve election of officers (President, Secretary- both 2 year terms)
  • To ratify Area Association-appointed Directors (Fraser Valley, Van. Area, Interior)
  • To approve a budget for the coming 2010-2011 fiscal year
  • To meet and re-acquaint with fellow referee colleagues

A Brainstorming session is being developed of which the topic will be announced shortly.
